On Thursday, March 7th, at the KU Leuven Institute of Philosophy, a notable gathering unfolded, marking a significant commemoration in the realms of medieval philosophy and theology. The event was dedicated to celebrating the 750th anniversary of Saint Thomas Aquinas’s passing. The “Holistic Eudaimonism Conference,” as it was aptly named, sought to unravel the intricacies of Aquinas’s efforts to harmonize the Christian philosophical tradition with the Aristotelian corpus.

While hiking in Austrian hills with a student hiking club, I met Vukoman, a theologian and philosopher from Belgrade currently studying in Vienna. Surrounded by greenery, snowy mountains, and vineyards around Vienna, we discussed our research interests – Leibniz, Byzantium, Christianity, Platonism – and wider implications of pursuing philosophical research nowadays. In this interview, Vukoman will tell us more about his current research, main interests, as well as his view on the role of philosophy in the community in general.

This month’s entry is devoted to Bichen Yan on the occasion of the Chinese New Year. Bichen received his PhD in the history of science and technology from the Department of History of Science of Tsinghua University (China) in 2024. Presently a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Tsinghua’s Philosophy Department, his research focuses on medieval and early modern theories of minerals and matter. For this, he adopts a comparative approach concerning the ontological foundations of natural philosophy in Europe and China.

The tradition of egg dyeing is an ancient practice that dates back to before the birth and death of Christ, as well as many ceremonial, symbolic and imagistic elements that have accompanied the evolution of ideas and religion, consequently being adopted and renewed.
