September 2024 – We are starting a new set of interviews in our Hot Off the Press section, trying to shed some light on issues concerning publishing and its whereabouts. We are aiming at having fruitful discussions on editorial policies, peer-reviewing, the unaffordability of academic publishing, open access, plagiarism, the challenges and opportunities of AI, etc. We hope to contribute to these ongoing discussions.

This month we discuss the merger of two of the most important publishers in our field. De Gruyter and Brill are merging, and we had the opportunity to talk about it with Maurits van den Boogert, Co-Chief Publishing Officer of De Gruyter Brill. We talked about the merger and we had a very honest conversation on other topics concerning the editorial process, the high prices of academic books and journals, and the challenges of AI. Enjoy!
