6. Editorial Structure and Governance
IPM Monthly is an independent publication, maintained by a voluntary and collaborative Editorial Board. Scholars and professionals with a demonstrable interest in medieval philosophy may request to join the Board and contribute to the magazine’s ongoing development.
The Editorial Board is collectively responsible for the strategic direction, editorial planning, and governance of the magazine. All key offices are elected internally:
- Editor-in-Chief
- Vice Editor
- Executive Editor
- Section Editors
In addition to the Editorial Board, IPM Monthly may engage editorial collaborators who contribute to the magazine’s development through specific roles or tasks. While not members of the Board, these collaborators play a valuable role in the production process.
Although the Sociedad de Filosofía Medieval (SOFIME) contributes financially to the technical maintenance of the website, IPM Monthly retains full editorial autonomy and operates independently from any institutional body.
IPM Monthly is a non-profit, non-commercial initiative. The magazine does not receive funding from any institution beyond the support provided by SOFIME, and members of the Editorial Board do not receive financial compensation for their contributions. All work is carried out on a voluntary basis, in the spirit of scholarly collaboration and public engagement.
7. Submission and Review Policy
Contributions may be solicited or submitted spontaneously. While IPM Monthly is not a peer-reviewed journal, all submissions are reviewed by members of the editorial team for clarity, relevance, and overall quality. Given the wide range of expertise represented on the Editorial Board, every piece is assigned to a board member with knowledge of the relevant topic to ensure a competent and informed evaluation. Authors may be invited to revise their work in dialogue with editors before publication. In the case of interviews or submissions that include factual claims, we fact-check the data provided. If an error is identified, the interviewee is contacted and asked to verify or correct the information. Should the interviewee insist on retaining a disputed claim, the magazine will publish the statement with a footnote indicating editorial concern and clarifying the issue. If a factual error is determined to be the result of editorial oversight, a retraction will be issued within the original piece, along with the corrected data.
The magazine also welcomes announcements, interviews, news items, and collaborative initiatives from individuals, institutions, and research groups in alignment with the magazine’s core values.
8. Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain full copyright of their contributions. Unless otherwise specified, all content is published under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence. This allows free distribution with proper attribution, provided that the material is not altered or used commercially.
9. Ethics and Conduct
IPM Monthly upholds the highest standards of academic and editorial integrity in accordance with the principles outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). We do not publish plagiarised, discriminatory, or otherwise unethical content. Editors and contributors are expected to maintain a tone of respect, responsibility, and collegiality in all exchanges and materials.
The Editorial Board is international in scope and strives for gender balance and inclusive representation. The magazine welcomes and publishes contributions in multiple languages, reflecting the linguistic and cultural diversity of the global medieval philosophy community. All members of the Editorial Board are held to principles of intellectual honesty, openness to dialogue, and a shared commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and ethically sound scholarly environment.
10. Development and Revisions
As a dynamic and evolving project, IPM Monthly may revise this editorial charter to reflect the magazine’s growth, future challenges, and feedback from the Editorial Board and wider community. This editorial charter may be revised to reflect the magazine’s continued growth, to address new challenges, and to incorporate feedback from members of the Editorial Board, contributors, collaborators, and the broader readership.
Revisions to the charter are proposed collectively and discussed during Editorial Board meetings. Substantial changes – such as those affecting governance, review procedures, or ethical standards – must be approved by a consensus within the Board. Minor clarifications or updates may be implemented by the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with relevant officers.
All modifications are documented and dated, and the most current version of the charter is made publicly available on the magazine’s website. Community input is encouraged, and we welcome suggestions that help ensure IPM Monthly continues to serve as an open, rigorous, and inclusive platform for medieval philosophy.
11. Final Dispositions
This editorial charter was unanimously approved by the Editorial Board of IPM Monthly on 15 June 2025 and enters into force on the same date.
